What are Ethereum and ETH?

Ethereum is a blockchain that runs smart contracts; most DeFi, stablecoins, NFTs and layer-2 networks are built on it. ETH is its native coin and pays for gas on every transaction.

Buy ETH on OKX in five steps

  1. Get USDT by card, P2P or a deposit from another wallet.
  2. Open Trade → Spot, search ETH and pick ETH/USDT.
  3. Choose an order type: a limit order waits for your price and pays the cheaper maker fee; a market order fills now but can slip.
  4. Enter the amount in USDT and confirm. The coin appears under Assets.
  5. Check the fill under Orders → Trade history for price and fee.

Use a limit order near the current price for your first buy. Limit orders pay the 0.08% maker fee, or 0.064% with the code.

What’s the minimum ETH you can buy?

You don’t need a whole coin. ETH is divisible and the minimum spot order is small; a few dollars is enough.

Staking ETH

  • Rewards are paid in ETH and the rate follows network conditions.
  • Unstaking can queue, so don’t stake money you may need soon.
  • Price risk remains: a 30% drop outweighs a few percent of yield.

Spot ETH ETFs vs owning ETH

The US approved spot Ethereum ETFs in 2024. An ETF gives you fund shares in a brokerage account; you can’t move them on-chain or stake them yourself. Buying ETH on an exchange gives you the actual coin to hold, transfer or stake.

Q / QUESTIONS

Buying Ethereum
FAQ.

Where can I buy Ethereum?

On OKX spot: search ETH and trade ETH/USDT. You can also swap BTC for ETH, but each extra swap costs another fee.

What’s the minimum ETH purchase?

ETH is divisible, so a few dollars is enough. The trade page shows the exact minimum.

Is Ethereum a good buy?

Nobody can predict prices. ETH depends on the broader market, network use, ETF flows and regulation. Buying in stages and sizing small is sensible for beginners.

Is staking ETH safe?

Staking is a normal part of Ethereum, but unstaking delays, price drops and slashing are real risks. Check the product rules on OKX.

What are the fees to buy ETH?

Fill value × rate: 0.08% maker, 0.10% taker for Lv1 users. OK66688 takes 20% off, so limit orders cost 0.064%.

I withdrew ETH on the wrong network. Now what?

If the recipient doesn’t support that network, contact their support with the TXID. Funds sent to a stranger’s address are practically unrecoverable.
