What is XRP, and how is it related to Ripple?

XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, aimed at fast, low-cost payments. Ripple is a company that promotes XRP for payments and holds a large amount of it, while the ledger itself is open source. Ripple’s long legal fight with the US SEC wrapped up in 2025.

Why XRP deposits need a destination tag

Exchanges often share one XRP deposit address across many users and use the destination tag to know whose funds arrived.

• Depositing to an exchange: fill in both address and tag.
• Sending to your own wallet: personal wallets usually don’t need a tag; follow the wallet’s instructions.
• Double-check: the first and last characters of the address and every digit of the tag.

Forgot the tag?

1. The XRP most likely reached the exchange’s main address.
2. Collect the TXID, address, amount and screenshots.
3. Contact the receiving platform’s official support. Whether they recover it, and for what fee, is their decision.

Why part of my XRP can’t be sent

The XRP Ledger requires every address to keep a small reserve of XRP to prevent spam accounts. New wallets need enough XRP to activate, and that reserve can’t be sent out. Check the current network rule in your wallet.
